About Us

The Eagle Lake Conservation Association (ELCA) is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural environment of Eagle Lake and its surrounding watershed in Machar Township, Ontario. For more than three decades, the association has brought together permanent residents, seasonal property owners, and community members who share a commitment to maintaining the health, beauty, and ecological integrity of the lake.

The Association serves as a steward of Eagle Lake by promoting responsible environmental practices, supporting scientific monitoring programs, and raising awareness about issues that affect the long-term health of the lake. Through partnerships with government agencies, environmental organizations, and local residents, the ELCA helps ensure that decisions affecting the lake are informed by sound environmental principles and community input.

A key focus of the Association's work is monitoring and protecting water quality. Volunteers participate in lake monitoring programs, collect environmental data, and support initiatives that help identify changes in lake conditions over time. This information contributes to a better understanding of Eagle Lake's ecosystem and helps guide stewardship efforts.

The Association also works to promote shoreline stewardship, responsible boating practices, and the protection of fish and wildlife habitat. Educational programs and communications help residents understand how everyday actions can contribute to a healthier lake environment. Topics such as natural shoreline preservation, septic system maintenance, water quality protection, and aquatic invasive species awareness are important components of the Association's ongoing outreach efforts.

In addition to environmental initiatives, the ELCA serves as a voice for the Eagle Lake community by providing information, encouraging public engagement, and fostering collaboration among residents, local government, and other stakeholders. By bringing people together around a shared appreciation for Eagle Lake, the Association helps build a strong culture of stewardship that supports both the natural environment and the community that depends upon it.

Today, the Eagle Lake Conservation Association continues to play an important role in protecting one of the Almaguin Highlands' most valued natural resources. Through education, monitoring, advocacy, and community involvement, the Association works to ensure that Eagle Lake remains a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable ecosystem for current and future generations.
